Exam Tips
TTL Tri-State Gates (Likely Exam Topic)
The following points must be mastered:
- Three states: High level, low level, and high-impedance state
- Input characteristics: TTL inputs allow floating (treated as high level / 1)
- Internal structure: TTL uses bipolar transistors internally, as opposed to CMOS which uses field-effect transistors (FETs)
- Unused input handling: Refer to textbook P248
Additional Notes
- Content with triangle symbols may also be tested; foundational knowledge should still be reviewed
- Open-collector gates (OC gates): Not tested
